Plantăm fapte bune în România

In Romania the percent of forest-covered areas is more than two times higher than in Moldova: 26,8% compared to our 11,2%. However, those thousands of hectares also suffer continuously from clearcutting and illegal logging.

Unable to remain indifferent, our colleagues from the other bank of the Prut river decided to act against this outrageous situation, involving civil society, wide public, companies, authorities and mass-media to rouse Romania and make it notice the forests that are still there, as well as the fact that we have fallen asleep to the sounds of saws and axes.

Thus, in 2011, led by the EcoAssist Association from Bucharest, a national volunteer reforestation initiative was born, known now as “Plantăm fapte bune în România” (“Planting good deeds in Romania”).

In the years that have passed, the project has mobilized around 20 thousands of volunteers who planted and cared about over 500,000 of trees on tens of hectares of degraded land throughout the whole country, with the help of national, district and local coordinators. In parallel, the team is also working on an illegal logging detection system, promoting investigation of relevant cases and application of national legislation.

The Seed It Forward initiative joined the project in autumn 2015, in order to support the organization of the biggest volunteer afforestation action from both countries, held on 14th of November 2015. Then, in 2016, we planted again on the same day, on November 19, 2016. We are united both in our intent to change people’s attitude towards forests and through mutual help and support. Together we Plant! Take care! Afforest!

Art Labyrinth

According to the members of the team, as well as other interested people, Art-Labyrinth is a sort of a challenge to the current system of consumption and to the absurdity of the modern world. The very structure of the organization is very flexible, reflecting the desire to change the world around it in a more harmonious direction. Another proof is the story of its appearance – it was born out of the free will of a group of simple artists, musicians and travellers, who have been capable to believe in miracle, and only years later, in 2008, registered as a non-profit, non-governmental organization “ART-LABYRINTH”.

The goals and objectives of the Art-Labyrinth include research, development and dissemination of national culture, as well as artistic values and traditions of other peoples and nations, from ancient times to the present day, with the purpose of comparative analysis, identifying and finding methods and traditions that add a special touch to the regional culture and belong to our country.

Art-Labyrinth, with the official residence in the former museum “Zemstva” on 103, Sciusev str.; Art-Labyrinth, organizing summer festivals in different parts of Moldova; Art-Labyrinth, always with new discoveries for the ones who meet with it – it is an essence of sincerity and selflessness, live music, live fire, the utopia of modern world.

WikiWoods

WikiWoods is a nongovernmental organization and a community of volunteers, who consider that planting trees is the best method of mitigating, preventing and adapting to climate change – both through increasing the surface of forest cover and through getting local community involved in saving the environment. Its name comes from combination of the organizational credo, woods, with the type of the online platform they use, wiki, which is a website that allows collaborative modifications from each user’s browser. This way, through the WikiWoods site, interested people could promote their own tree-planting events, find other like-minded enthusiasts in their region, exchange knowledge and experience, and network with tree experts and funders.

Started in 2007 by ten active Berliners, WikiWoods has managed to involve, until now, around 1,200 volunteers, who planted, altogether, more than 65 thousands trees. The actions have mainly taken place in Berlin, Brandenburg, Goettingen and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Germany, but in the last years they have reached Moldova as well, showing up in Hirbovat in the end of 2014 and in Bubuieci in 2015-2016.
