  • Why Bubuieci?

  • We often get asked as to why do we still bother with Bubuieci despite many difficulties that we meet on the way. Or how did we get stuck choose it, in the first place. Well, we have our reasons, and you can find them below, in form of an analysis: SWOT Bubuieci Strengths: Unwanted land – a former landfill. Not too probable anyone will be interested to seize it from us. Very close to Chisinau, a distance of maximum about 5 minutes from the “Kirpichnii zavod” (“Brick factory”) station with a regular transport (121 minibus route; frequency of 5-15 minutes). Some pioneer species have already been growing there before we came (Russian olive; robinia; blackberry; dogrose). 2200 tre [...]
  • Bubuieci park comes alive!

  • At long last the winter months, when the only thing we could do was just wait and hope that the trees and shrubs planted in autumn would take root, passed. The visits to Bubuieci are becoming more and more interesting - new leaves, new discoveries... However, the times when we will be able to just come and enjoy the park have not yet come. Right now the most important thing is to help the saplings live through their first summer on the new place. And our attention and presence are key to their survival. Bubuieci is full of jungle again - only now this jungle is not dry, spiny and unwelcoming, but lush green, almost hiding the mounds of trash so visible in autumn and winter. Even the earthen [...]
  • Why do they plant up to 5.000 trees per hectar?

  • The afforestation standards in Moldova, as well as in Romania, presuppose planting of up to 5.000 trees per hectar (based on planting schemes of 2x1m, for example). It seemed so weird to us for quite some time. Then, we realized there are some sensible reasons to do it this way. When you plant more trees per hectar, they reach the self-shading and self-protection stage more quickly, meaning less care is needed of the foresters. In addition, a part of the saplings do not take root or otherwise do not survive the first years, so that the initial number is reduced. And you do not have to plant something additionally, because there is still enough trees. Besides, the initially straight rows t [...]
  • Planting willows along the river Raut

  • When you are in the spring mood - planting, planting, more planting! - you feel weird when the temperatures start to climb and leaves to appear. On the one hand, it means a long-awaited respite from hard work, but on the other, the next chance to contribute to greening our country will be only in autumn, months away... So, when we found out about the miraculous qualities of willow - for instance, it has a high potential of surviving and propagating - we decided that if it can still be planted, we just have to try. First, we planted some saplings by the Bubuieci lake and along the river Chiuluc in Singerei, in order to try it out and to create A practical and detailed photoguide to planti [...]
  • How to plant willows. A practical and detailed photoguide

  • First of all, you should know that’s not as easy as it may seem. Be ready to get dirty! Determine the location. Try to find portions of the rivers that suffer less from pasturing (for example, in such places where the arable land almost borders with the river) and where less people are roaming. Try to evade zones with a lot of reed, or cut it down around the sapling, because there is a high probability the reed will be set on the fire. Find donor trees. It is best if they are young, because the older ones may not be very healthy (affected by fungi or bacteriosis). It is also advisable that these trees are as close as possible to the planting site. If you can find only the large trees [...]
  • Planting hazelnuts at Elizavetovca

  • The Seed It Forward plans for spring 2016 didn't include any large-scale planting events, because everything that is planted until summer was going to require monitoring and care. Two thousands something of saplings in Bubuieci, as well as personal gardens and beginnings of a tree nursery already seemed enough. However, that doesn't mean we didn't plant anything new at all. For instance, there was a series of planting events in the framework of a partnering project of FLEX and activEco alumni, “Sustainable Development – Big Vision, Small Steps”, supported in the large part by our team. And the first of them, held on March 12, 2016, was planting hazelnuts by the village of Elizavetovca [...]

  • First winter in Bubuieci

  • December 2015 was totally dedicated to Bubuieci - monitoring, mulching, exploring, preparing territory for new plantings and even adding new trees and bushes. This was the time for us to become acknowledged with the whole territory and to realize what a number of two thousand and something actually means. That's when you see one wrongly planted tree, and replant it, and than another one, and another one, until the sky goes dark. That's when you mulch trees, and mulch more than 80 of them, and still you go and see so many bare ones. That's when you plant around 30 new trees and they become lost among hundreds. That's when there are such big borders to observe. At the beginning of Dece [...]
  • Plantăm fapte bune, autumn 2015 - conclusion meeting

  • On December 11-13, 2015, the coordinators of „Plantăm fapte bune” ("Planting good deeds") actions from Romania and Moldova met again in Tarlungeni, Brashov, to draw conclusions about the intense work they have done in the last months. The main objectives of the meeting were reflecting over the the planting events from the perspective of communication and organization, as well as through SWOT anaysis; coaching the teams (so that they can think more clearly about their recent experiences) and collecting ideas for the next year. It was a very useful exchange of experience that offered us the possibility to view our experience from a new angle and identify the points that we need to pay mo [...]
  • Planting good deeds in Bubuieci

  • The first action within the project „Plantăm fapte bune în Moldova” („Planting good deeds in Moldova”) took place on November 14, 2015 in the village of Bubuieci, Chisinau municipality. The planting event was attended by about 400 volunteers from different localities, educational institutions, profit and nonprofit, national and international organizations. And all of them have come with one specific purpose – namely, to contribute to the revitalization of a degraded piece of land. Together, we have already planted one quarter of the planned 10,000 trees on an area of 5 hectares. Instead of a former landfill, an offensive spot both for the environment and for the people who walk by [...]
  • Great thanks to everyone, we did it!..

  •   It has been lots of work in the past weeks - promoting, meeting with volunteers, collecting funds, buying tools and seedlings, preparing the field, etc. etc. - if anyone had told us just a few months before that we would be able to manage all this, well, not sure we would have believed him. But then the day of our first action, 14 November, has come - and it has been amazing. 400 volunteers from different locations, organizations, backgrounds and ages have come and helped us to start the revitalization of a former landfill in the village of Bubuieci, Chisinau municipality. For many of them that was the first experience of planting a tree - so it has been lots of positive [...]
  • Welcome to the afforestation action!

  • They say Moldova is the poorest country in Europe in terms of money. We say Moldova is the poorest in terms of forests, barely 11.6% of the territory in comparison to European average of 33%. And while it is difficult for the common citizens to do something about the general economical state of their country, they – we – can certainly do something about the forests. Step forward and start planting trees! So we, EcoVisio Association and its initiative Seed it Forward, inspired by the initiative “Plantăm fapte bune in Romania” (“Planting good deeds”) from Romania and driven by our own hearts, plan to make our country more prosperous and its citizens happier by planting fruit forests. Combat [...]
