  • Field visit - degraded lands of Riscova

  • The autumn is here, and once again we are getting ready for plantings, exploring the lands that are looking forward to become greener - this time, in village Riscova, Criuleni district. This landscape isn't unique - deforested hills, suffering from intense pasturing, soil, bereft of moisture towards the end of summer. Wherever is possible, people are somehow still practicing agriculture - or, better said, corniculture. Why did we come here - because here is a very high risk of landslide, helped by gravity and people themselves. Just have a look at the pictures! Villagers put their lives at stake, excavating sand and clay from under a hill 10-20 meters tall, while big chunks of it fall [...]
  • Seed It Forward at IarmarEco 2016

  • On October 16, 2016, the Seed It Forward team took part in the Fair of Ecological Opportunities and Social Entrepreneurship - IarmarEco 2016. It was great to be able to share the best of what we've achieved in about a year... Seeds, including a fruit forest seeds' exposition from Spain, dried herbs & herbal tea, honey, nuts, sun-dried fruits and vegetables, natural soap, postcards featuring glimpses of Bubuieci, Seed It Forward tree nursery and simply Moldovan forests, and a special guest - Avellana Ablana from Asturia. All in all, we had everything but the paper clips!
  • Training course "Grow Roots In The Countryside"

  • First half of October 2016 was marked for Seed It Forward team not by preparations for the planting season, but by a trip to Spain, in order to take part in an amazing Erasmus+ training course "Grow Roots In The Countryside". The course itself was happening in between October 4-11, 2016, but Eugen and Gabi wanted to travel in the most environmentally friendly way available, and so spent almost the same time (about 150 hours more) in buses travelling through Romania, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, France and Spain, and then back the same way. It was worth it, but for the future, they decided they won't be that environmentally-crazy, unless absolutely necessary. This was possible thanks to envir [...]

  • First working picnic at Bubuieci

  • On September 18, 2016 the young Bubuieci park hosted the first Seed It Forward working picnic! Maybe second, if we count braving the weed jungle on a cold day a week before the grand planting event a year ago, but then we were mostly freezing and overwhelmed with the amount of tasks we had to realize in a very short time, lots of uncontrollable factors and bits of trouble that kept sprouting almost every day. Throughout the spring and summer it was just a bit more relaxed, but still, it was coming to the site as soon as the temperature was beginning to drop, and work-work-work until the sunset, in spite of spiky and sticky weeds, heat, clouds of mosquitoes and few, but tiny ticks, all the [...]
  • First visit to Natural Reservation Codrii

  • September 17th: enjoyed a small, but amazing team trip to an unexplored yet treasure - Natural Reservation Codrii. Will definitely come back here to explore the museum and hike through the forest, study biodiversity and gather seeds! Thanks to MEGA and especially to Alexandr Iscenco for inviting us! Turkish hazelnut. Oak. Beech. Beech seeds - edible and tasty! But that's just to try, all the others will remain for the tree nursery...
  • Bubuieci in August

  • If you plan to plant trees, August and September seem to be the best time to visit the places you want to make greener. This is the time when everything is looking real and blunt: the weeds, as high as they can get; the ground and rivers, as dry as they can get; and the trees and bushes that are growing there - as alive (or dead) as they can get during a summer season. So, if you came to Bubuieci in August, you could first get disappointed - what is happening here? Where is the park? Where is the team who promised to care about it? But, actually, the team was there - not once, not twice, not even ten times. Better not count. The fact is, we decided to take as much care of trees as we can [...]
  • The Seed It Forward Nursery

  • There are different ways to get trees in order to plant them. You can buy them from a nursery, or you can take them from someplace like forest where they have grown by themselves. And there is the most challenging, the most demanding, but also the most heartfelt and thorough option of growing these trees yourself, from seeds. This way, you get them for free in terms of money and do not have to worry about whether it is legal or not to smuggle a tree from the forest. But this way, you are together with these seedlings since their birth, and, unless you have been doing it for years or you are able to tell yourself, "you cannot get 100% survival rate anyway, it's the same way in nature", you a [...]
